Phillip has been a valued member of the Department of Internal Auditing since June of 1999. In July of 2007 he stepped up to head the department as the director.

Before assuming the responsibility of leadership with Georgia Tech’s Department of Internal Audit, Phil was the Associate Director for Information Systems Audit and Assessment at Georgia Tech, where he worked for eight years. Prior to his joining Georgia Tech, he served in the US Army for 10 years, which has taken him to Germany, Korea, Hawaii, and various states in the continental U.S. He was a Communications Facility Chief for a strategic outpost on the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ). This life shaping challenge helped him to understand the need for confidentially, integrity, and availability of information assets and their role in organizational operations. Prior to joining the team at Georgia Tech, Phil established a portfolio of expertise in the areas of project management, configuration management, and leadership which have supported his quest to enhance the audit program at Georgia Tech. Phil holds professional certifications as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified Business Manager (CBM). He holds a Masters Degree in Information Systems from Western International University.

Phil served as the 2005-2007 Director of Distance Learning for the Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA), an international association of internal auditors in higher education. Phil served ACUA’s Board for nine years in various capacities and was awarded the was recognized with the ACUA Excellence in Service Award in 2007. In September of 2008 he will accept a leadership role as a Board Member-at-Large on the ACUA Board of Directors.

Phil is a published author in the College and University Auditor professional journal and has held several leadership positions in the industry. He has been a featured speaker at professional conferences and presenter of live Webcasts.
